Mr. Hughes currently serves as Broker and Co-owner for Railhead Realty, LLC
www.RailheadRealty.com, a boutique or independent real estate firm located in Willow Park,
TX. Railhead Realty primarily focuses on Commercial and Commercial Land Development real
estate projects but does well in both the Farm & Ranch and Consumer Homes markets as well.
Mr. Hughes is also President and a Shareholder of JRM Construction Services, LLC, capitalizing
on the high-growth development market in the North Central Texas market.
Additionally, Mr. Hughes has over thirty years of entrepreneurial experience, primarily in oil
and gas, technology, telecom, and M&A, plus seven years in “Corporate America” with
AT&T/SBC. In his role of Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer for VarTec
Telecom, Inc. (a long-distance communications service provider), Mr. Hughes, along with the
other key executives, was able to build what became the largest independent telephone
company in the United States. As CMO for VarTec’s North American Operations, Mr. Hughes
engineered the entire direct marketing strategy and product fleet which ultimately saw
VarTec become the US Postal Service’s largest customer, delivering over 1 Billion impressions
per year. Despite a total capitalization of only $100,000 in equity, this company peaked in
excess of $1.3 billion in annualized revenue and over $200 million in EBITDA for its North
American and European operations.
Mr. Hughes helped establish and has held board positions for over 20 other privately-held
companies. This founding and acquisition experience has positioned Mr. Hughes to be
effective in managing and exponentially growing startup companies.
In the energy arena per se, Mr. Hughes co-founded and was CEO of River Bend Geo Services,
LLC and Three Rivers Water, LLC (water treatment); AgroFire, LLC (alternative energy
ventures); and BioCatters, LLC (oil and gas as well as renewable energy consulting business
with a double digit, oil & gas services client base). BioCatters consulting engagements ranged
from “right sizing” to full-tilt expansion. Products and services of these companies included:
drilling mud motors, water treatment (ClO2), water trucking, salt water disposal wells, water
transfer, oilfield construction, etc., all of which were focusing on the various shale
markets...Bakken, Barnett, Marcellus, Eagle Ford, Haynesville, and Fayetteville as well as the
Permian Basin. Most of these companies were experiencing ultra-high growth with very
strong EBITDA performance. With respect to telecom and in addition to the VarTec Telecom
positions, Mr. Hughes is also currently CEO and largest shareholder in Red Raven Group, LLC
And, finally, Mr. Hughes’ practical experience in building companies is bolstered by his
Bachelor of Science obtained at Abilene Christian University as a cum laude, biology/chemistry graduate.
